Downes to miss FA Cup semi-final after being handed ban

Southampton midfielder Flynn Downes will miss the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City after being handed a three-game ban for "violent conduct" during their win over Swansea City.
The 27-year-old will be suspended for Saturday's tie at Wembley plus the final two Championship games of the regular season against Ipswich Town and Preston North End.
The FA has not disclosed the specific nature of the incident which led to the charge but Downes did make a heavy challenge on Swansea's Liam Cullen in the 23rd minute.
Saints won the game 2-1 with Downes also booked in the 25th minute before he was substituted at half-time.
"Flynn Downes admitted the charge against him and accepted the standard three-match penalty," the FA said in a statement., external
"The midfielder's actions around the 23rd minute wasn't seen by the match officials, but was caught on video, and it was subsequently alleged that this constitutes violent conduct."
He will be able to return for Southampton's play-off campaign and the FA Cup final should they get there.
Downes joined Saints on loan from West Ham before signing a permanent contract after promotion in the summer of 2024.
During his time at St Mary's he has made 107 appearances for the club, scoring six goals and registering four assists.
This season he has been a key part of Tonda Eckert's side, playing in 41 matches and scoring three times.
