Cardiff ready for run-in after 'reset' - Chambers

Cardiff City hope the international break will have served as a "reset" after a difficult run of form - and a chance to reignite their promotion bid, says captain Calum Chambers.

Cardiff are second in League One, 11 points clear of third-placed Bolton Wanderers and the chasing pack outside the automatic promotion spots.

However, the Bluebirds struggled before last month's window for international fixtures, losing three and drawing two of their past seven games to fall seven points behind leaders Lincoln City.

After a fortnight without a match, the Welsh club's run-in begins at Peterborough United on Monday (15:00 BST), the first of their final seven games of the season.

"Maybe it [the break] came at a good time," said former Arsenal and Aston Villa defender Chambers.

"It was a reset moment, get together, work hard on the things we want to do.

"It's been a really enjoyable season. We're embracing it, being in the moment, enjoying everything, enjoying how we're doing because I think what we've done this year has been really good, and there's still some way to go."

Cardiff are aiming to make an instant return to the Championship following their relegation last season, dropping down to the third tier for the first time in 22 years.

They have been top of League One for much of this campaign but were recently overtaken by Lincoln, who are unbeaten in 22 matches.

Cardiff are now seven points behind the leaders but, when he was asked if the Bluebirds had given up on the title, Chambers said: "No, not at all.

"All we can focus on is us. I think we've had an amazing season. We've done so well so far, and we can only control what we can control.

"We'll try to win as many games as we can, then who knows what can happen. Anything can happen in football."
