Spanish cyclist Jaume Guardeno is in intensive care after suffering serious injuries in a collision with a vehicle.
The 23-year-old Spaniard finished 29th in the Tour of Catalonia last week and was 14th overall in last year's Vuelta a Espana.
Guardeno was injured during a training ride on Tuesday.
His team, Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, said on Thursday that Guardeno was airlifted to Tauli Hospital in Sabadell by helicopter.
He was placed in an intensive care unit "with serious injuries" where he is "awaiting further evaluation".
Spanish media, external reported that Guardeno suffered a head injury after losing control of his bicycle when he hit a rock, which led to him colliding with a car.
"We want to express all our support and strength to Jaume and his family during this time, wishing him a speedy and full recovery," Caja Rural-RGA said.
Following his impressive performance at the Vuelta, the promising young starter was in contention to make his Tour de France debut this year.
