Signs, Symptoms and the value of screening
In England the NHS breast screening programme picks up around 14,000 cases of breast cancer each year, saving approximately 1,400 lives. However, many women fail to be screened either due to fear or lack of awareness of their rights to screening.
We’ll be following someone in their screening and exploring the issues that surround it: how useful is it and should we be looking to more sophisticated scanning such as MRI, or are we guilty of screening too much, leading to over-diagnosis? With recent surveys showing widespread confusion about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, Clinical Nurse Specialist Antonia Dean will be joining us to dispel the myths and offer practical advice.Woman's Hour Breast Cancer Awareness Month Woman's Hour Breast Cancer Messageboard
