All songs were assessed by members of the BAC&S, then 60 finalists were invited to one of the four masterclasses during January and February 2008.
All finalists were assessed during their masterclass days. The overall winners were chosen based on these assessments, their original song and their entry form. The jury included the mentors and representatives of the BBC and BAC&S who ran the masterclasses.
The winners chosen from the masterclasses will be mentored by a leading UK songwriter for a day in a professional studio.
What were we looking for?
We were looking for aspiring songwriters (individuals or groups) with skills that could be developed, people who were genuinely looking for a career in songwriting, people who were open to collaboration and those who enjoy the creative process.
We wanted original material which would appeal to a mainstream audience.
