King Charles and Queen Camilla will travel to the US to meet President Donald Trump, in what will be the first UK state visit to the US since Queen Elizabeth II's trip in 2007.

The visit, which will be in late April, will include a fancy dinner at the White House.

The King is also expected to deliver an address to Congress - part of the US Government.

We don't know the full details of the trip yet, but it will include a stop in Washington DC, and on the way back, the King will pay a visit to Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic.

What is a state visit?

A state visit is a formal visit to another country by an important foreign leader - including monarchs, presidents or prime ministers.

They are grand occasions, which aim to strengthen relationships between countries.

The decision to hold a state visit is made by the government, with the King travelling on behalf of the Foreign Office.

President Trump has made two official state visits to the UK - one in September 2025, where he had a banquet at Windsor Castle, and one in 2019 for a three-day stay with the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The US marks the 250th anniversary of independence from British rule this year - and that will be a significant focus of the trip.

Buckingham Palace said the trip will "celebrate the historic connections" and the relationship between the two countries.

But not everyone is happy about the King's upcoming trip. Last week, a YouGov survey suggested that 49% of the British public were against the state visit to the US while 33% wanted it to go ahead.
