"I was in the shower last night trying to think of something to say when I was shaving my legs... but I have pants on so didn't need to worry about that," she jokes.

"As you can tell, I'm a little flummoxed," before paying tribute to her fellow nominees, adding that her legs were shaking.

She thanked her family including fellow actor husband Ed Harris before leaving the stage tearfully. Well done Amy!

  2. Huge cheers sweep the audience when Conan O'Brien mentions Sinnerspublished at 23:27 GMT 15 March

Conan O'Brien carried on his opening monologue by making jokes about Hamnet and F1 before mentioning Sinners, which got a huge round of cheering and applause from the crowds. He paused while it rippled around the auditorium.

He also mentioned co-starring with best actress nominee Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I'd Kick you - saying: "It's hard to act in a scene when you've always had a massive crush on your co-star, but Rose you did a fantastic job!"

He went on to say this year is the first time since 2012 there are "no Brits" in the best actor or actress categories.

He then joked about a British spokesperson saying that at least in the UK prominent figures are arrested for their alleged crimes, without naming or alluding to anyone in particular.

Cutting to a more serious tone, he added that tonight's Oscars are representing "31 countries across six continents".

"Every film we salute is the product of thousands of people speaking different languages. We're paying tribute to global artistry, collaboration, patience, resilience and optimism - that rarest of qualities.

"Let us celebrate because we work and hope for better," he added.

He got more warmth from the audience during his rousing moments than perhaps for some of his jokes.

F1 is the second film nominated for best picture.

F1 is, of course, about Formula 1 and stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris as competing racing drivers, in the film co-produced by seven-time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton.

It's up for four Oscars, including best film. Pitt stars as veteran driver, Sonny Hayes, who returns to the Formula 1 grid with fictional team APXGP after a long absence, with the action taking you behind the scenes, showing both the rivalry and camaraderie of the sport.

Released last summer, F1 grossed $630m (£467m) worldwide, making it Apple Original Films' most successful theatrical release to date, and was filmed at locations including the Northamptonshire's Silverstone Circuit, at both the 2023 and 2024 Grand Prix.

The movie saw both Pitt and Idris driving "on their own in one of these real race cars on a real F1 track" during the shoot, according to director Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Top Gun: Maverick.

Speaking about filming at Silverstone, Pitt said: "We were on hallowed ground. It was very humbling, stepping into a sport that is so revered and treated like religion. We just wanted to make sure we didn't get in anyone's way."

A sequel to the film is in the works, producer Jerry Bruckheimer told the BBC last month.

  4. Amy Madigan has won 40 years after her first nominationpublished at 23:23 GMT 15 March

Amy Madigan has been enjoying a career renaissance with her role as the terrifying Aunt Gladys in horror film Weapons, and this win comes a mere 40 years since her first and only other nomination for Twice in A Lifetime (prophetic title, hey?)

It was a highly competitive and unpredictable category this year, but Madigan really picked up momentum after winning the equivalent Actors’ Award earlier this month.

Madigan landed the only nomination for Zach Cregger’s movie, about 17 children who all leave their homes in the middle of the night. She’s also known for starring opposite Kevin Costner in baseball movie Field of Dreams and in classic comedy caper, Uncle Buck.

Other contenders in this category were:

    • Elle Fanning - Sentimental Value
    • Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas - Sentimental Value
    • Amy Madigan - Weapons
    • Wunmi Mosaku - Sinners
    • Teyana Taylor - One Battle After Another

Kylie Jenner is always a showstopper on the red carpet - when her partner of three years and best actor nominee Timothée Chalamet lets her walk with him.

Tonight doesn’t seem to be the night for that - it remains to be seen whether it will be Chalamet’s coronation after his tumultuous couple of weeks losing both the Screen Actor’s Guild Actor Award and the BAFTA and feeling the wrath of both the opera and ballet communities after some unfortunate comments he made about them.

Jenner posted on social media that she’s wearing red Schiaparelli and will presumably join him inside the ceremony.

Having sent up Aunt Gladys from horror movie Weapons, racing through the set of all of tonight's major films, the host arrived on stage to a standing ovation.

He opened with a joke about being the last human host of the Academy awards, poking fun at the AI in films debate and, later taking aim at Netflix.

A big laugh came when he explained that "security was tight" because it was needed for the "ballet and opera communities". It's been quite the hot topic after best actor nominee Timothée Chalamet recently said "no-one cares" about ballet or opera any more, prompting an outcry from many artists.

    It's a strong start!

Vampire horror film Sinners broke the record for the most Oscar nominations received by a single film when it was recognised in an impressive 16 categories earlier this year.

Ryan Coogler's film beat the previous record of 14 nominations, although multiple nods don't always translate to success on the night.

Last year, musical Emilia Pérez led the charge with 13 but only won two although many put that down to the scandal that derailed the movie's Oscar campaign in the run-up to the ceremony.

More recently, ping pong film Marty Supreme went home empty-handed from the Baftas, despite scoring 11 nominations.

However, while Sinners has been at the forefront of the Academy Awards conversation all season, it's really built up a head of steam in recent weeks.

Having recently triumphed in key categories at the Actors Awards (previously known as the Sag Awards), it could be on for big wins tonight including best picture and best actor. And picking up those prestigious prizes can indicate success in the technical categories, too.

The record number of wins is 11 (shared by Ben Hur, Titanic and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) which will take some beating. Let's see!

Teyana Taylor has been the one to watch this awards season, not only for her heavily-favoured nomination in the best supporting actress category for One Battle After Another, but also for her impeccable fashion choices.

She doesn’t disappoint tonight in black and white custom Chanel.

Powerhouse husband and wife duo, Ryan and Zinzi Coogler, stand to take home his and her Oscars tonight for Sinners.

Ryan produced and directed the Southern gothic vampire musical and wrote the screenplay, the latter of which he is likely to win an Oscar for.

In the lead up to the Academy Awards, Sinners pulled ahead with a record-breaking 16 nominations to give One Battle After Another a run for its money in Best Picture.

If it wins, Zinzi will be the first Black woman to win in that category.

Amy Madigan is up for best supporting actress for playing the frankly terrifying witch Gladys in Weapons, the supernatural horror mystery about 17 children who go missing from the same classroom.

It comes 40 years after her first supporting actress nod for Twice in a Lifetime, which starred Gene Hackman as a steelworker whose family fragments after his affair with a barmaid. Madigan played his daughter Sunny.

Madigan's second nomination marks the longest period of time between Oscar nominations for an actress, a record previously held by Helen Hayes, who had a 39-year gap between best supporting wins for 1932's The Sins of Madelon Claudet and 1971's Airport.

Here's who Madigan is up against in her category:

    • Elle Fanning - Sentimental Value
    • Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas - Sentimental Value
    • Wunmi Mosaku - Sinners
    • Teyana Taylor - One Battle After Another
