ኣብዚ ክፋል እዚ፡ ብዛዕባ ዝስመዓና ስሚዒታት ከመይ ጌይርና ከምእንዛረብ ክንምሃር ኢና። ክብድ ዝበለ እንተመሰሉ ኣይትሻቀሉ ጽኒሕ ኢልና ክንሕግዘኩም ኢና። ሕጂ ነዞም ሰለስተ ተዛረብቲ ጽን ኢልኩም ስምዑ። እንታይ ዓይነት ስምዒታት ይገልጹ ኣለዉ?

I’m relaxed because I have the day off.
I’m bored because I don’t have anything to do.
I’m excited because it’s the weekend.

ተረዲእኩም’ዶ? እቲ ቀዳማይ ተዛራቢ ‘relaxed’ ተዛንየ ኢሉ። እቲ ካልኣይ ተዛራቢ ‘bored’ ሰልኪዮኒ ኣሎ ኢሉ። እቲ ሳልሳይ ተዛራቢ ድማ ‘excited’ ተሓጊሰ ኣሎኹ ኢሉ።

But they also provide reasons about why they feel this way.

So, Tom፡ ስምዒታትና ከመይ ከምእንገልጽ ክትመሃሩ ድሉዋት ዲኹም?

መጀመርታ እቶም ተዛረብቲ ብ ‘I’m’ ይጅምሩ። ቀጺሎም ንስምዒቶም ዝገልጹሉ ቃላት ይጥቀሙ። ቶም ነቲ ኣደማምጻ ክትደግሞ ትኽእል’ዶ?

Of course! All the words used by the speakers to describe feelings end in the letters ‘-ed’, but these have different sounds!

ኣዝዩ ጽቡቕ ኣደማምጻ! ኩሎም ተዛረብቲ ስሚዒቶም ገሊጾም። ስሚዒታት ድማ ብኩነታት ይዉሰኑ። ነቲ ኩነታት ንምግላጽ ድማ ‘because’ ይጥቀሙ። ጽን ኢልና ንስማዕ።

I’m relaxed because I have the day off.

እቲ ቀዳማይ ‘the day off’ ስለዘሎዎ ‘relaxed’ ኣሎ። ሓደ ነገር ክንገልጽ ምስንደሊ ብፍላይ ንስምዒት ዝምልከት ኣብ መወዳእታ ‘-ing’ ክንዉስኽ ንኽእል።

That’s right! A day off makes us feel ‘relaxed’. So, a day off is ‘relaxing’.

So, the weekend makes him feel ‘excited’. How can we describe the weekend using ‘–ing’?
