Listen to
the programme
Country
boy Martyn drives a 4-wheel drive truck, while townie DJ Justin
drives a powder-blue hairdresser's sports car.
And
in the second programme in the new landmark Sense of Place series
for Beds and Herts - comically called A Sense of Egg - the dynamic
duo go on a voyage of discovery around Bedfordshire.
Over
breakfast after their programme one day, Martyn realises Justin
has no idea of the contribution the countryside makes to the economy.
In fact young Justin thinks eggs come from the supermarket!
You
can hear the fear in Justin's voice as he stands among 4.000 broody
hens. Although Martyn believes it's his best chance of pulling a
bird! Justin has a quiver in his voice as he describes the scene:
"There's thousands of them."
Eggs
can be bought at Doug's farm gate but the majority are sent to Dean's
Foods in Tring where they are packaged for major supermarkets.
The
duo take a tour of a highly mechanised factory and Justin cannot
hide his excitement when he sees the actual boxes that he buys from
the supermarket.
