Portrayal of the bachelor in film and literature 30 Mar 2004
Portrayal of the bachelor in film and literature
Later this week a glossy magazine is holding bachelor awards to pick out Britain's most eligible single men.

From Jack Lemon in The Apartment to James Bond, from Sherlock Holmes to Martin Amis' John Self in Money, is the bachelor a mainstay of novels and on the silver screen? And are they portrayed as eligible or as losers who can't get a girl?

Jenni asks film critic Charlotte O'Sullivan and literature critic, DJ Taylor how the portrayal of the bachelor has changed over the years.
