The theatre began life as the
Palace Electric Theatre and opened in 1910.
In 1949 the cinema was closed and the stage was enlarged to
accommodate live shows.
The Palace attracted many famous names including Larry Grayson.
In 1968 the council offered a five guinea prize for a new name
for the building - the winner was "Civic Theatre". |

The Auditorium, Mansfield Palace Theatre
There is seating for 750 people in Mansfield Palace Theatre.
Seating is on two levels - you can choose to watch the performance
from the stalls or the balcony - but wherever you sit it'll feel
like a personal performance.
The theatre has recently be redeveloped - funded partly by an award
of nearly £1.8 million from the National Lottery through the Arts
Council of England, with an additional £64,000 from European funding
and investment from Mansfield District Council.
Following the redevelopment the Palace Theatre has been designated
as a regional mid-scale touring venue, meaning that it will seek
to attract an audience from a 40 minute drive-time by presenting
a broad range of work.
