Other BusinessYou are in: Jersey > Inside the States > Other Business > Ageing: Time to care ![]() Ageing: Time to careHow will we care for ourselves and each other in the coming years in Jersey? In the first part of our series on an ageing society, we speak to Andrew Green from Headway. We ask him how we’re going to care for ourselves in years to come. Jersey, like most developed nations, is facing a future where a majority of citizens are past the current retirement age. One question we will have to ask with this future is how will we care for ourselves and others? And some people who know more about this subject than most are carers, who spend much of their time looking after a loved one. Andrew Green is a leading member of the brain injuries charity Headway and the Scott Gibaut Trust which is campaigning for homes for people in Jersey with special needs. He is also a carer for his son Chris. Among other things, Andrew Green feels that more homes need to be built in the island for people with special needs. He says there needs to be a greater number of homes in the community which offer support. He described this as "the mencap model where you have four or five people living in a house with somebody either sleeping there if it’s required or staying there during the day to initiate." Listen to Andrew Green tell his story in full, including more ideas on how the island will care for itself and for those in most need in the future.
