How to add photos to the BBC Gallery

Getting Started

1. Step 1.
   Join Flickr

   Join Flickr (part of Yahoo!)

   (If you already have a Flickr/Yahoo! ID go straight to Step 3).

   • Go to the Flickr registration page.
   • Select 'Sign Up' in the 'Don't have a Yahoo! ID?' box.
   • Fill in the form.
   • After registering you will see a confirmation page.

2. Step 2.
   Confirmation page

   Tick the right boxes

   This page gives you a Yahoo! ID but it also allows you to decide what extras you may or may not want.

   • Yahoo! marketing information: If you do not want to receive any select 'Edit Marketing Preferences' at the bottom of the confirmation page. Then select 'Clear All' to untick all the boxes.
   • Email: You can use your normal email address or your new Yahoo! ID on Flickr - just go to the bottom of the confirmation page and click on the button next to the email address that you’d like to use.

3. Step 3.
   Upload your photo

   Upload your photo

   • Select 'Home' from the top of the page
   • Select 'Upload' and then 'Browse'
   • Find the photo that you want to add to the group
   • You will need to upload a total of five photos before others can see your photos
   • If you upload several photos at the same time they will have to have the same tags. If you want each to have different tags (eg. they are of different places) upload them one by one or change the tags later when your photos are published
   • Mark the photos 'public' so that other people can see them

   It may take about several days for your photos to be visible.

   Hint:

   When you see your photos just double click on the ones you want to upload and they will appear on the Flickr upload list.

4. Step 4.
   Join the BBC Group

   Join the BBC Britain in Pictures group

   • Select 'Group' from the top of the Flickr page
   • Enter BBC Britain in Pictures group in the 'Find a Group' box
   • Select 'BBC Britain in Pictures' group from the menu
   • Select 'Join this group' (middle right of the page)
   • Confirm you want to join the group

   Tip:

   If you do not see this link you need to sign into Flickr first.

5. Step 5.
   Add your photos to the group

   Add your photos to the BBC Britain in Pictures group

   • Select 'You' from the top of the Flickr page
   • Select the photo that you want to send to the group
   • Check that your tags include the name of the building, its location, and anything else that you think helps describe your photo
   • Check that the photo is marked 'public'
   • Select 'send to group' from the top menu
   • Select the BBC Britain in Pictures group (you may have to scroll down if you are a member of more than one group)
   • Add the photo to the group
