Stephen's father was an alcoholic and died when Stephen was 17. Family life was in turmoil and two days later Stephen was kicked out.

He had nobody to turn to and ended up having to sleep rough.

Stephen thinks there's a general misconception of who homeless people are and what they're like, eg. that they're just drug addicts and drunks. He's now in temporary accommodation, but believes he might not have survived the experience of living on the streets if it hadn't been for the kindness of other homeless people.
