Cleveland Fire Brigade has a range of youth engagement courses which aim to develop young people through fire related activities. Local Intervention Fire Education (LIFE)A one week intensive course for 13-17 year olds. It aims to encourage those that take part to make the most of their physical & mental capabilities and to become more responsible, safer and caring member of their communities. The Safety Awareness Fire Education course (SAFE)A six week programme is delivered to a group of 10 targeted young people during a structured 2 hour sessions. The purpose of the programme is to introduce young people to a number of different aspects of the service. It also aims to increase their awareness of the consequences in the following areas: Anti-Social Behaviour, Hoax calls, Arson and TWOCING. Princes Trust CourseA 12 week Personal Development Course is aimed at 16 to 25 year-olds from any background. The course is designed to enable young people to develop their confidence, motivation and communication skills through a series of projects and challenges, with an emphasis on teamwork within the local community. It also concentrates on the volunteers' future plans; i.e. job search, the next steps week, an individual placement and skills needed for today's workplace. ![]() Fire engine The Young Firefighters Association (YFA)Can be joined by those aged from 13 up until the age of 17. The course, which is run on evenings and weekends, gives members the chance to take part in fire related activities, gain valuable life skills and experience fire and rescue situations. Sessions are geared towards personal development, as well as offering youngsters the opportunity to be involved in team work and lots of fun. Fire Setter InterventionSpecialist staff are employed to work with young people who have been referred to us as a result of being involved in starting fires or have displayed an unhealthy interest in fires. One to one intervention work is carried out discreetly, normally in the home through a series of visits.
