The ship carrying the container had recently arrived from Port Kelang in Malaysia. The duty and VAT chargeable on this amount of cigarettes, and that the smugglers were hoping to avoid, is about £1.5 million. ![]() The consignment was described as re-writable CDs. However, hidden amongst the load, officers discovered more than 7.2 million illicit cigarettes. The tobacco was confiscated by Customs officials and will now be put to much better use.
