We know him better as the 'Michelin Man', and, though born in France, he's also a bit of a Stokie - as Alice Gregr reports... You should know him... Bibendum became a household name and went as far as to win advertising icon of the century in 2000! Michelin’s main UK headquarters are in Stoke, so I like to think of Bib as a bit of a local. It turns out that designers decided it was time Bib had a bit of a makeover to keep with the ever changing fashions. So, he was put on a diet and asked to lose two stone. Interview (of sorts)Now if he could speak, I think a conversation with him would be fascinating. So, in my own mind, I met up with Bib the other day in an imaginary coffee-bar to find out a little bit more about the local celeb... *** So Bib, How are you? -I’m well thank you Alice, rather tyred. It’s been a busy few months. Why’s that then, Bib? -Well, we’ve been busy filming a range of new adverts now I have my new look. Yes I noticed Bib; you’re looking very pumped up and fit. What’ve you been doing to change your look? -Well, I’ve been spending a lot of time at the gym, working out. It was tough losing the pounds but I feel a lot better for it and look better too. Yes you do Bib. So for us Gym-phobics, what exercise has been most beneficial for you? -Well, I love spinning. Spinning classes are really good for burning the calories. I’m not a big fan of the treadmill though. I’ve also done a bit of weight lifting. So what does the future hold for you, Bib? -Well things are really running in the fast lane for me as part of the Michelin Group now so I’m really looking forward to the work we’ve got coming up. But, in the more distant future, I’d like to take things down a gear or two and settle with a nice lady and have a family. Have you got anyone in mind? -That would be telling. It’s all a bit up in the air at the moment. Thank you Bib, keep us posted on everything you’re doing. We’re glad to have you back! last updated: 21/10/2008 at 19:43 SEE ALSOYou are in: Stoke & Staffordshire > History > Local Heroes > Who is Bibendum? |
