St Peter's School in Hixon has changed a lot since 1904, and reading through the record books and punishment log with pupils from the school, it's definitely changed for the better! Teacher Margaret Prince and pupils Matthew, Toby, Hannah and Lauren showed BBC Radio Stoke's Local History Correspondent Katie Martin the school's original record books, dating back to 1904. ![]() You're in trouble if your name's in here! Seven Strokes on the SeatAccording to the punishment books, misdemeanors like throwing stones, shouting, and interrupting the teacher resulted in the perpetrator getting several strokes with cane, or worse still suspended from school. The record books made less frightening reading; written by the Headteacher, they detailed the day to day events that took place in the school, and noted reasons for pupil absence, the most common of which were ailments like headlice, or opportunities to earn money by working on local farms.
