Having grown up
on the Isle of Wight, Sally Waterman knows its shores well.
In her Making Our Mark exhibition the artist has documented her rural walks around
the Island by photographing the footsteps she encountered along the way as well
as the footsteps she left as she wandered around. | | Making
Our Mark by Sally Waterman |
The
idea behind her images is that we all leave our mark on our environment as a kind
of visual clue for others to follow. Her
work also follows the theme of personal journeys and is inspired by Romantic nature
poets such as William Wordsworth.
She takes the Romantic tradition of
walking for pleasure rather than necessity and looks at how strolling in a natural
landscape can stimulate the imagination. Her
serene and spacious images are bound to make you long for fresh air and open spaces
and they'll certainly give you a unique view of the Isle of Wight. Making
