Mahela reaches 10,000 landmark

Jayawardene led Sri Lanka to the World Cup final in 2007
Sri Lanka’s former captain, Mahela Jayawardene became the first Sri Lankan cricketer to reach 10,000 Test cricket runs in Durban, South Africa.

He joins with the elite club of eight other international cricketers who have reached the milestone.

Jayawardene achieved the landmark in his career while playing for the second Test against South Africa.

His successor as Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara is closely following him with 9170 Test cricket runs.

At the end of the play on the first day of the second Test in Durban, Sri Lanka were 289 for seven wickets.
