'No travelling restrictions' to north

Everybody including foreign nationals will be allowed to visit anywhere in the country including the war-affected north, Sri
Lankan authorities say.
Director General of Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Lakshman Hulugalle told BBC Sandeshaya that restrictions imposed for travelling to north for foreign nationals has been removed since Monday. "We decided to remove restriction on journalists to travel to the north last month. The defence ministry has decided to remove similar restrictions on everybody from today," he said. Mr Hulugalle however added that the international non governmental organisations (INGOs) will only be allowed to travel to the north but not to engage in any activity. "If they want to work there, they still need to get the clearance from the president's office," he told the BBC. |
