Protest against 'attacks on Muslims'

Muslim leaders in the government and a pro-government religious group representing all faiths have condemned attacks on the
Muslim world by Western countries.
The protesting denounced the recent killing of Osama bin Laden by the US troops in Pakistan. The protest, after the prayers at the Kollupitiya mosque, Colombo, was organised by the World Muslim Organisation (WMO) and Inter Faith Organisation (IFO). The Governor of the Western Province Alavi Moulana was among the main organisers. "Obama thinks he is a tourist and all others are terrorists," Mr Moulana said.
"This is unfair. If he invades and murder people in other countries, if Osama a terrorist, is Obama a tourist?," he questioned referring to the killing of Osama bin Laden. Other religious leaders who took part in the protest said the issue of Western domination is not only an issue for the Muslim world. Weligama Anuruddha thero of Moratuwa Gangarama temple called on all Sri Lankans to unite against international pressures on Sri Lanka. Catholic and Muslim clerics also took part in the protest. |
