Sri Lanka High Commissioner for India Prasad Kariyawasam said that Sri Lanka Navy boats were not present in the area, where the alleged incident had taken place.

Therefore, Sri Lanka Navy is not responsible for the shooting. But as it has been officially informed by the Indian government, an investigation will be done by the Sri Lanka Navy, Mr. Kariyawasasm said.

Strict orders

Sri Lanka Navy will not be motivated to shoot Indian fishermen, and they have been strictly advised not to resort to firing, he said.

High Commissioner summoned

He said that he was handed a report by the Indian authorities suggesting that an Indian fisherman had died in the shooting incident.

Mr.Kariyawasam said that he had informed the Indian government that Sri Lanka would initiate an investigation.

Responding to a question, Kariyawasam said that the Sri Lanka has no objections of an Indian investigation as the incident had happened within their waters.
