“UNP is united and yesterday's conference proved that. I told the party that we cannot go forwards as a divided party” Wikramasinghe pointed out.

“I cannot personally decide where I am going to be, but I am prepared for anything” is the verdict given by parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa.

Sajith Premadasa and his supporters were having another press briefing in a Colombo hotel to coincide with the UNP leader Ranil Wikramasinghe’s press meeting.

New constitution for new era

Sajith Premadasa argues that the new constitution will reinstate the democracy within the party.

“According to the new constitution, key positions in the party have to be filled within hundred and twenty days. If we cannot agree on an appointee then the executive committee and working committee can select the suitable person by vote” he said.

Head of the UNP media unit, parliamentarian Managala Samarawera who attended the media conference with the opposition leader said that the party endorsed a new constitution for new era.

“The UNP will intensify the campaign to against the government with the renewed energy and unity after endorsing the new constitution” Samaraweera told journalists.
