Government land policy is fair- Keheliya

Media minister Keheliya Rambukwella has said that demography could change as people have to resettle irrespective of ethnicity.
The minister said that any Sri Lankan should be able to live in any part of Sri Lanka. “It’s not fair to allocate land to a particular ethnicity” said media minister Keheliya Rambukwella responding to a question from a journalist at the cabinet press briefing on Thursday. The media minister pointed out that it was government policy to give land to the landless from where land is available. Change of demographic make-up The Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Ranjit, who’s soon to become a Cardinal, said that attempts were being made to change the demographic make-up of northern and eastern Sri Lanka, which currently have an ethnic Tamil majority. He and a group of senior Catholic witnesses who were similarly critical of the Sri Lankan government were testifying before the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) on Wednesday. |
