US imprisons two for helping Tamil Tigers

An American court has handed down long prison sentences on two men for trying to acquire anti-aircraft missiles and other military equipment for the Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka.

Sathajhan Sarachandran and Nadarasa Yogarasa were sentenced to twenty-six and fourteen years in prison.

They were among four men arrested in 2006 in an FBI sting operation as they attempted to purchase the weapons.

The two other men, who also pleaded guilty, are yet to be sentenced.
