"Another attempt by pro-LTTE groups" -Human Rights Minister Mahinda Smarasinghe
Sri Lankan government has categorically rejected the video footage carried by British TV station, Channel 4.

The video footage showing Sri Lankan soldiers killing unarmed men was telecast in Channel 4 and several other media channels including BBC.

Minister of Human Rights, Mahinda Samarasinghe told Sandesaya that it is clear that the intention of the video footage is to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka and the security forces.

“It is another attempt by pro LTTE groups once again to discredit the government”, Minister Samarasinghe said.

International Inquiry

Human Rights Watch in a statement said on Thursday that the media showing apparent summary execution of prisoners by Sri Lankan soldiers underscores the need for an international inquiry.

It said the inquiry is needed to probe into war crimes committed by both sides during the armed conflict in Sri Lanka.
