Protest against Minister Mervyn Silva
Protest against Minister Mervyn Silva
Minister Mervin Silva has assured that he would not obstruct journalists any more.

The minister was in Supreme Court to respond to charges against him for which he was accused of having assaulted and snatched cameras from a Sirasa TV crew at an official function at Paliyagoada.

Minister Silva agreed to pay rupees seven hundred and fifty thousand as an ex gratia payment for damages caused to the camera.

The Attorney General was instructed by the chief justice to drop charges filed against the minister.

The chief justice also warned Sirasa not to publish news provoking the minister.

Outside the courtroom , the minister said that journalists should act in a disciplined manner.

“I don't have any problems with journalists or media owners but if you are supporting the tigers then that's where I have a problem", he said.
