NFF that broke away from the JVP in April says the only solution is war

National Freedom Front (NFF), a breakaway group of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) that supports government's war effort also accused India and the West of pushing for a political solution "whenever LTTE is facing defeat".

NFF president Wimal Weerawansa, MP, told journalists in Colombo that President Mahinda Rajapaksa does not have a mandate to find a political solution.

"There was no mention of devolution of power in the 2005 policy statement," he said referring to Mr. Rajapaksa's policy booklet, Mahinda Chintana.

APRC deliberations

Every leader in Sri Lankan history, Mr. Weerawansa added, "has lost elections when they did not honour the mandate".

However, the NFF leader said the party will take part in the future deliberations of the All Party Representative Committee (APRC).

President Mahinda Rajapaksa convened the APRC to deliberate on a political solution to the national question.

Addressing the last APRC meeting on Saturday, President Rajapaksa told that efforts to find political solutions to political issues should be continued.

The main opposition, United National Party (UNP), and the JVP boycott the APRC while Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is not invited to take part in the APRC.
