Five Sri Lankans in Paralympics

Two Sri Lankans are competing in their respective fields on 08 September in Paralympics held in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
Shantha Kumara, (200m), and Upali Rajakaruna (Wheelchair Tennis) are among the five Sri Lankan men taking part in this year’s Paralympics. Lal Pushpakumara (High Jump), Sandun Wasana Perera (Weightlifting) and Udaya Pushpakumara (Javelin and Long Jump) are the other three Sri Lankans among nearly 4000 sportsmen representing 148 countries. Four of the five Sri Lankan participants were made disabled while serving in Sri Lanka armed forces. Sri Lanka that has attended three Paralympics in the past is yet to win any Paralympic medal. It is highly unlikely that the current team will win an Olympic medal, Lankadeepa journalist Namal Pathirage, who is covering
