Military says LTTE naval camp was attacked by the fighter jets

In the first incident, a military spokesman said helicopter gunships attacked a Tamil Tiger naval camp in the rebel stronghold of Pooneryn, near Kilinochchi.

He said hours later, fighter jets bombed a militant training facility near the rebel-held town of Mankulam.

'Civilian killed'

There's been no comment from the Tamil Tigers on the latest attacks.

Sporadic clashes continued elsewhere in the north leaving casualties on both sides.

In a separate incident, Tamil rebels alleged that claymore mines planted by security forces killed one civilian and injured another near the Puliyankulam area.

Fighting has intensified in northern Sri Lanka in recent months amid government promises to capture more territory from the rebels.
