Petition to disarm armed groups

Nominations day
Many parties express concern whether the vote will be rigged
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court asking it to order Inspector General of Police(IGP) and the Defense Secretary to disarm armed groups in the east during local government polls.

People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) has filed the petition with election commissioner and thirty five officials as respondents.

In its petition, PAFFREL has pointed out that there has been election related violence in the district, and it poses an obstacle to ensure a free and fair election.

Another obstacle for a free and fair elections, it states, is that the armed groups contesting the elections are involved in their election campaign with arms in their hands.

PAFFREL has also made a request to the Supreme Court to issue a ban on the use of public property for election purposes.
