'Mercedez' claims and counter claims

Controversial Benz car
The 'controversial Mercedes Benz' is still owned by the JHU leader, the Ven.Ellwala Medhananda Thera, says a spokesman for the JHU, Udaya Gammanpila.

The Motor Traffic Commissioner has confirmed that there is no transfer of the vehicle to another person, he told Sandesaya.

JHU is not aware of any person by the name of Nishantha Hematha and there is no reason for JHU to abduct anyone,Gammanpila said.

He accused the United National Party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe as the first opposition leader who has been involved in motor vehicle robbery.

JHU parliamentarians

Asked if it was a robbery why a compliant was not made, JHU spokesman Gammanpila said the Ven.Ellwala Medhananada thera was seriously ill that thera is not able to make a formal complaint until Monday, the 6th.

Hemantha meets Ranil

Rejecting JHU claims, UNP parlimentarian Ravi Karunanayake said that Nishantha Hemantha had been forced by the JHU to give a statement to the Homagama Police that he was not abducted by the JHU.

Following this, Nishantha Hemantha met the opposition leader and handed an affidavit to him explaining what happened, he said.

Nishantha Hemantha was threatened by the JHU and asked to return the vehicle, parliamentarian Karunanayake said.

The UNP will request a parlimentry select committe to probe into the matter, Karunanayaka added.
