Akashi to revive peace process
 
Govt. delegation in Geneva talks
The head of the Sri Lankan Peace Secretariat,Dr.Palitha Kohona said that the government has not yet received LTTE conformation on the dates for resumption of talks.

LTTE spokesman, Daya Master has told BBC Tamil Service that LTTE has nothing new to say with regard to peace talks.

Meanwhile, peace envoy Yasushi Akashi now visiting Sri Lanka in an attempt to save the fragile peace process is expected meet rebel leaders on Tuesday, Amal Jayasinghe, the AFP correspondent in Colombo said.

He will persuade both parties to come for talks in Geneva and that will be his main agenda, Amal Jayasinghe said.

Akashi who arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday is also due to meet President Mahinda Rajapakse.

European Union

Jayasinghe said that in the back drop of no go situation, European Union member countries are reported to have discussed the situation in Sri Lanka and considered the possibility of banning the LTTE.

LTTE delegation in Geneva talks

"Even their representatives have already arrived in Sri Lanka to assess the situation”, he said.

The leader of the Upcountry Peoles Front, P.Chandrasekeran who was at the gates of Temple Trees on Saturday when he talked to Sandesaya said he is going to meet LTTE leaders after disucussions with the President.

Peace Move

Peace activist, Kumar Rupasinghe in an interview with Sandesaya said that most of the problems before peace talks could have been resolved if President Mahinda Rajapakse had direct talks with the LTTE.

However, he said, the government and the LTTE should stop violence before any move.
