Jayaneththi says Sri Lanka will be divided under unitary structure

NLF Presidential candidate Chamil Jayaneththi said Sri Lanka will be divided into two countries under the unitary state structure proposed by some candidates.

He said: "We will have one country under a united Sri Lanka, but two countries under unitary structure."

Dr. Vickramabahu Karunaratne, a member of the NLF presidium, accused Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse of asking the country to be disciplined while himself violating the party discipline.

Ranil 'selling Tamils'

President Chandrika Kumaratunga has accused the premier of violating Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) discipline by entering election deals with Sinhala nationalists without informing the party hierarchy.

Dr. Karunaratne alleged that opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe in a subtle way, is trying to subjugate the Tamil people to global capitalism.

"The freedom of the Tamil nation does not mean selling them to the international market," he added.

The NLF stressed, under the circumstances, the left-wingers have a duty to fight against both leading candidates who are "agents of global capitalist exploitation".
