JVP says P-TOMS agreement violated Sri Lanka's constitution

A petition filed by Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) requested courts on Monday to invalidate the agreement that created JM, renamed as Post Tsunami Operational Management structure (P-TOMS).

In a petition filed in Colombo District Court the JVP has cited MS Jayasinghe, Secretary to the ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees (RRR), and Shanmugalingam Ranjan, Deputy Head of Planning and Development Secretariat (PDS) of the LTTE as defendants.

Jayasinghe and Ranjan are the two signatories to the P-TOMS, also known as Tsunami Relief Council (TRC), agreement on Friday.

The plaintiff, JVP's Western Provincial councillor Vaas Gunawardhana, has requested the courts to rule that the defendant Jayasinghe has no legal authority to sign such an agreement and he has violated country's constitution.

Claiming that the P-TOMS agreement is a threat to Sri Lanka's sovereignty, the JVP has requested courts to make an interim order preventing its execution and to rule the agreement is illegal.
