Sudath Ranugge, secretary to the ministry told BBC Sandeshaya on Monday that appointing a new administration through an annual general meeting (AGM) while the minister has appointed an interim committee is illegal.

The elected administration led by Thilanga Sumathipala on Monday has sealed the premises of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) creating another controversy.

The appointed head of interim committee Jayantha Dharmadasa was barred from entering the premises by the security guards, Ranugge said.

Sumathipala was elected uncontested as SLC president on Sunday’s AGM.

“We have requested from the police to take necessary steps in ensuring access to the interim committee”, Ranugge said.

Dharmadasa said that the committee is waiting instructions from the ministry.

“The minister has to take action as he is the one who appointed us.”

“This is an unprecedented situation in test playing countries. Never in the history of test cricket has there been two administrating bodies for one country”, an international cricket administrator said.

International Cricket Council (ICC) is to discuss implications of the SLC crisis on Tuesday in London.
