SLC has continuously been accused of financial mimanagement
Sri Lanka’s new cricket chief says he will run a “corruption free” administration until a new board is elected.

Speaking exclusively with bbcsinhala.com from Dubai Jayantha Dharmadasa said he would not betray the trust placed upon him by the minister.

Sports minister Jeevan Kumaratunga on Thursday dissolved Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and appointed a six-member interim board headed by Dharmadasa to run the country’s most favourite sport.

“Minister would not have dissolved the board without proper reasons,” Dharmadasa said when asked how interim committees can develop Sri Lanka’s cricket.

“When I was the chairman of Sri Lanka Film Corporation, nobody accused me of any irregularity.”

Sumathipala with Aravinda De Silva
De Silva (R) is among the casualties of minister's decision

Former SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala was set to return to the top post for the record fourth time during the AGM on 27 March.

He was the only candidate when nominations closed in early March.

This is the first time Dharmadasa, who contested against Sumathipala before, has been put in charge of an interim administration.

Apart from Dharmadsa, the committee includes former interim chairman Rienzie Wijethilake and four others.

Sumathipala, meanwhile, is said to be seeking legal advice to challenge the minister’s move.
