In January 2007 Peter Clare was asked by author John Court and the Penguin Press if he would produce a range of black and white illustrations to depict various stories from the Bible. After working his way through every page looking for inspiration Peter produced over 20 illustrations in less than two months using pen, ink and brush.  Jonah A contemporary religious artist, Peter is a devout Christian and lives out his faith through his art. According to Peter all his work is religious in some way including paintings of flowers, vegetables and even nudes. A series of Peter's paintings called The Journey has been on show in cathedrals and churches up and down the country and were also featured on the BBC's Heaven and Earth show. The paintings explore the spiritual journey, faith, belief and relationships with others. The large painting features over 1000 individually painted figures in what he describes as a prayer labyrinth. Never encouraging commissions Peter says he likes to paint out of his own vision rather than somebody else's.  Moses Peter's half way through his latest project the St Matthew Cycle. This time he's decided to go through the entire gospel painting a range of images to illustrate each chapter, around 250 paintings in all.
