Palestinian singer, songwriter and musicologist
Born to Palestinian parents in Britain, raised in Kuwait and a frequent visitor to Palestine, Reem Kelani is a distinguished singer, songwriter and musicologist. She has built up an international career as a leading performer and researcher of Palestinian music, and her music combines traditional Arabic music with the more modern influence of jazz.
For years, Kelani has been interviewing old women in Palestine and the refugee camps of Lebanon, and collecting, recording and singing their songs. She joins Martha to discuss music of love, loss, dispossession and separation.
Reem Kelani's CD is Sprinting Gazelle
