Why are women a minority in the hobby of birdwatching?
Birdwatching is commonly perceived now as a male pastime. But it was a group of Didsbury ladies who popularised bird protection in the 19th century.
How far are female bird watchers accepted by male counterparts today?
And do the sexes differ in their methods and what they are looking for?
We hear from twitchers attending the British Birdwatching Fair and Jenni talks to Stephen Moss the author of A Bird in the Bush, a social history of birdwatching and Sue Hepton, a grandmother and an avid birdwatcher.
