What does yours say about you?
Why do women choose the musical instruments they do? A person in a good place to answer this question is Emily Pailthorpe. At 17 She became the youngest-ever winner of the Gillet International Oboe Competition and the American equivalent of the BBC Young Musician of the Year.
Jenni talks to Emily and chamber music pianist, Susan Tomes, to discuss their relationship with their instruments.
On Tuesday 8 June Emily Pailthorpe makes her Wigmore Hall debut recital (entitled War and Innocence) which launches her debut CD on the Oboe Classics label: Though Lovers be Lost. The proceeds of her concert are going to Save The Children.
Beyond the Notes: Journeys with Chamber Music by Susan Tomes is published by Boydell and Brewer.
The Florestan Trio concert is on 8 June as part of Spitalfield Festival and will be broadcast live on Radio 3 at 7.30pm. It includes the world preimere of Piano Trio 2 by Judith Weir, which has been written especially for the Trio.
