  Osteoporosis 24 May 2004
How new treatment guidelines could increase patient suffering

One in three women over the age of 50 in the UK are affected by osteoporosis. NICE, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence has drawn up a consultation document for the Department of Health looking at the secondary prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

However new research released today by the University of Hull shows that doctors are concerned these guidelines would dramatically affect how many patients get treatment and may lead to an increase in suffering.
