A little known pelvic condition suffered by pregnant women
Symphysis pubis dysfunction, or SPD, is caused by the loosening up of the pelvis to prepare for birth. It's an agonising condition that at its mildest makes movement difficult, but at its most severe, has led to some women having to use a wheelchair for months after the birth of their child.
Martha speaks to physiotherapist, Clare Woodward, and Jancis Shepherd, Senior lecturer in midwifery from Thames Valley University. She asks them why some women with symptoms are sent home from their GPs with nothing more than paracetemol?
