Performance poetry has risen in popularity and prominence in recent years, but in the Asian subcontinent, the idea has been around for years.
A mushaira is a meeting where poets recite their work, often competing for appreciation and applause. Oldham library have just had their first women-only mushaira, giving the women a chance to perform their work in a less competitive arena.
Their poems are read in English, Urdu and bhangla and reporter Ruth Hickman was there.
