 October 2003 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU).
Emmeline and Christabel Pankhurst, together with Annie Kenney, began their radical movement to fight for equal rights in 1903.
We talk to Baroness Shirley Williams, visit students from Manchester Girls Grammar School where the original Pankhurst girls were pupils and hear from women who took part in the campaign.
