 France has always had a prickly relationship with its Muslim population.
So the setting up of the country's first council to represent Muslims seemed to be a real step forward. At least until France's interior minister infuriated Muslim women by saying they shouldn't wear their veils in identity photos.
We hear from French Muslims about what the veil means to them. And journalist Catherine Guilyardi joins Jenni to tell her more about the history, politics and social context of the veil in France.
