Have you a pergola, arbour or arch in your garden? These types of garden structures are extremely popular for growing climbing plants and providing height in our gardens today. These structures, however, are not as modern as they may seem.
Katherine Swift has created a haven for them in Morville Hall garden in Shropshire. Katherine talks to Anna McNamee about the history of this garden form and why she finds them so fascinating. Pergolas, Arbours and Arches: Their History and How to Make Them, edited by Paul Edwards and Katherine Swift, published by Barn Elms, 2001. ISBN 1 899531 06 8 BBC GardeningDisclaimer
