Why we get it and how to lose it!
Spare tyre, beer gut or muffin top - whatever you want to call it, it’s one of the accepted pitfalls of middle age. As we reach our forties or fifties, our waistline expands by a few inches, and we find it harder to shift that extra weight. But is middle aged spread inevitable, or are we all just making excuses for our indulgent diets and lack of exercise? The latest government health campaign is targeting the middle aged and a new book by two American doctors instructs on how we can lose our middle aged middle in just 6 weeks. So why are we more likely to get fat as we get older? What are the health risks and how can we control it? Jenni is joined by Addic Brillon from the British Dietetics Association and by Sue Kilshaw, who admits that she, like many of us, has gained weight in middle age.
And…Lose Your Middle-Aged Middle!: The Simple Six-week Plan to Flatten Your Belly Mary Dan Eades and Michael R Eades is published by: Piatkus Books (17 Dec 2009) ISBN: 978-0749942182
