Cowes Week, the biggest and the oldest event on the British sailing calendar, begins on Saturday.
Sailing, along with equestrianism, is one of the few sporting events where women and men can compete on an equal footing.
Several yachtswomen have hit the headlines recently – Dee Caffari became the first female to sail solo around the world the ‘wrong way’ in May, Shirley Edwards got a gold medal at the Athens Olympics, and of course Ellen Macarthur and Tracy Edwards have both broken records in the sport.
So why do women make such impressive sailors? To discuss this Martha Kearney is joined by yachstwoman Tracy Edwards and sailing correspondent Bob Fisher.Cowes WeekDisclaimer
